Target Proves $15 Minimum Wage Will Not Work

One can rightly say that Target got what they had come to them. Target is a retail giant that recently made headlines as they were going to be one of the first to give all their employees a minimum starting wage of $15 per hour. The wacky liberals went crazy over this socialist decision. Like all socialist decisions, it has not worked out well for the employees of Target. What the loony liberals will not tell you is that there are consequences for having such a high minimum wage.

The loony liberals want everyone to believe that they have their best interests in mind when they push for things like a $15 minimum wage. The stupid liberals will never tell their followers about the potential consequences. Every praised Target for making this monumental move and now people are wondering why more companies have not simply done the same thing. The answer to such inquiries is found in what Target had to do to keep itself in business.

The funny part about the Target story is that those that received the increase also had to suffer a major decrease. What happened is that Target had to cut their hours because they were making too much money. This is simply business logic. A company cannot pay people anything unless it brings in more than what is needed to meet payroll. Target has also made the move to more automation meaning that customers are now able to check themselves out instead of waiting for a cashier.

What is funny about this situation is that it was predicted by the conservatives long before Target implemented the changes. Simple math dictates that a company cannot pay out more than it takes in. Doing so causes businesses to fail. All the wacky Democrats that are pushing for a national minimum wage need to wake up and see the hurt and trouble that Target has found itself in. A high minimum wage will not help in the end. Rather, it will cause companies to fail and people to not have as many hours.

What the stupid liberals and Target owners are finding out is that workers are now complaining about having their hours cut. Companies may increase their wages for workers but if that number is greater than what is taken in, then there will need to be some cutting of hours or just simply downsizing of the company. Once the dust settles on all of this chaos one can only hope that some within the loony camp will realize that socialism fails in every way possible.

Target made a huge mistake in increasing the wages of so many people. Many of the people that work for Target have found that they can no longer pay their bills because they do not earn enough. Even when Target has been posting massive profits it still is not enough to offset the bad decision to bring people on at $15 per hour. The employees are now making less than they did before because their hours are so low.

This is where the Republicans sit back and say “we told you so.” Some Target families have even lost their health insurance because they have fallen below the minimum hours that are needed to be worked to qualify for the benefits. Automation and increased wages are not the friends of employees. A high minimum wage takes away the desire to work hard and build a future for oneself. Younger employees feel entitled to things that older employees have worked hard to accomplished.

This move by Target has been a thorn in their side. It has caused nothing but problems. The only thing that has come out of this good decision is what is found in the bad. The results speak to the failure of a socialist system. It proves that a Democratic way of government is doomed to fail. The government needs to stay out of the private sector and stop trying to ruin the lives of people.

  1. They tried this decades ago when the unions raised wages. Champion Spark Plug simply automated the warehouse and production of the spark plugs. Now very few warehouse workers, production automated, all the operators that assembled the spark plugs gone. That’s why an engineer makes more than a factory worker. The engineer saves the company much more than he makes.
I eliminated the need to take a “Physical Inventory” at an animal feed manufacturer. Saved about half a million the first year! Plus inventory was correctly valued, errors were greatly reduced. Manager could spot check inventory count any time the product was low and easy to count. Every morning he had a report showing every item that was out of the limits he had set. That let the inventory be checked at the time it got too low or high. He loved not having to take a physical inventory! Didn’t have to close the store for up to two weeks. BUT, most businesses still do it “The OLD WAY”! NUTS!

  2. Kind of a “told you so” moment isn’t it? I started working in a store when I was 15 and minimum wage was $1.25 per hour, increasing to $1.35 before I graduated from high school. Babysitting made you 50 cents an hour no matter how many kids. I worked hard doing both and also mowing the lawn and taking care of the neighbor’s dog when they were gone which paid about the same as babysitting or maybe $5 if it was over a number of days when they were out of town. I saved every cent that I could towards college and paid for my clothes, makeup, necessities, and entertainment…fortunately, being female, my date usually paid for my movie ticket, bowling, and things like that and things were much cheaper then in comparison to today and percentage of income compared to now. Even the cost of a house and/or rent was a lower percentage of your income than it is today. Eventually, I owned a business with my ex-husband and know how much wages, the employer’s share of Social Security, Workman’s Compensation insurance, and Health Insurance reduce the income of the business and in turn can really lower the amount the owner can draw as income because of the need to pay all of the other overhead associated with a small business. The same happens to big business on just a larger scale. Those who push the laws have no idea what it costs to run a business or the effects it has on that business. Anyone who wants to increase their wages is going to prove themselves by reliability, efforts, and value to the company which are all reasons to receive a wage increase or promotion. Those that take the job demanding more pay for doing less or with the current attitude of “you owe me” or “entitlement” are the ones that are not going to last and do not prove that they deserve more pay or the job.

  3. Liberal socialist love to spew false promises.
A shame they didn’t sit in my High School Economic’s class where 1st lesson was:
“There’s no such thing as a free lunch.”
    Someone always pays.

  4. I said this would happen from the get-go. Automation is now the “new norm” and people will be laid off.
Our Wal-mart stores all went automation, with minimal cashiers, as well as the supermarkets.
Again DEMOCOMMUNISTS have shot themselves in the foot, BUT, being crazy like a Fox, they LOVE having people unemployed, because they will again rely on “government” handouts, and they will be back in “CONTROL” again.
Just listen to the 2020 DEMOCOMMUNIST “hopefuls” touting “free” everything, and the clueless MORONS that follow blindly, and actually think THAT will happen. Sorry, people, prepare yourselves for despair, depression, and disappointment if ANY Democommunist wins, because those “promises” DEMOCOMMUNISTS make, always seem to disappear and be forgotten long after the voting is over, unlike the POTUS we have NOW…..Promises made , promises kept. Think long and hard before you vote for COMMUNISM. (that is YOUR “democrat” party now)

  5. Back in the 80’s I was a reservation agent for Ramada. After two years of steady advancement my supervisor told me I should look for other work. She said she was proud of my performance but I had worked my way up to $5 an hour and would be replaced by a new hire at $4.25. That’s when my wife and I became janitors at $4.75.

  6. Every person should obtain and understand the “Ten Pillars of Economic Wisdom” Their fundamental truth is as valid today as it was when they were written. An on-line search will provide various sources.

  7. Let me splain something to these liberals and economically challenged and uneducated: when you raise the cost of labor a few things happen; 1) prices either have to go up or hours have to be cut. In the case of the latter, they will be replaced by automation or just have to be more productive. In the case of the former, prices going up causes inflation; 2) When inflation increases, then the price of all things go up; 3) now that prices have gone up, your purchasing power of every dollar that you have has gone down(takes more dollars than it used to to buy everything); 4) now with inflation, those who got a raise to $15/hr have gained nothing because that bigger wage now buys the same amount of goods and services; 5) everyone that was making $15/hr or more got a pay decrease because none of them got a raise but because of inflation, they can’t buy as many goods and services; 6) If the employers cut hours, those employees now lose medical benefits, paid holidays, paid vacation days and paid sick days; 8) our goods and services become more expensive to the rest of the world so we export less and if that happens, businesses close their doors; 9) it’s simple economics and people like AOC supposedly studied Econ but that must have been at a matchbook cover college.

  8. This fact will definitely be disputed by the progressive liberal socialist left. They’ll claim that Target did it on purpose, so that the CEOs can make more money. That the profits are there to pay their employees.
The left was warned, the protestors were warned and the country was warned about the consequences.
Are Target employees still going to vote for Bernie? See where is ideas and those of the other candidates will lead.

  9. Liberals don’t want to deal with facts or truths; they only want to spout slogans that will get them elected. When their policies fail they always blame it on Republicans, which often works. They even claim that Obama started the financial boom before he left office, which, of course, is a blatant lie. The boom started and continues after Trump was elected. Target officials probably convinced their employees that they would make a lot more money with the $15/hr raise, but failed to tell them the real consequences of reducing their hours. No doubt employees are a bit disgruntled over that development.

  10. The Bernie campaign had to cut hours to meet the 15.00 dollar level. Bernie has not changed his position. They are incapable of learning from experience.

  11. I was glad to see this topic highlighted: $15/hr minimum wage at Target.
However, this article needed editing. The overall impression while reading the article was that I was reading a grade-school paper. Please.
Don’t be discouraged. Do better. Get the help you need to sound professional.

  12. Couple all that with the Democrats doing nothing about illegal immigration which immigration exerts pressure to lower wages. I needn’t extricate why. Thus those legally in the U.S. will be undesirable to some employers because illegals will take half their pay. Good-bye, lower wage jobs that people new to the workforce need to learn basic job skills such as punctuality, reliability and a good work ethic.

  13. When politicians start doing the will of the majority of citizens that voted them into office, and stop patronizing the minority citizens because they lost, and do what they were elected to do in Congress and the Senate, by working together for the citizens of our Country.

  14. well, you know whats coming next! mandatory minimum hours. this is what happens when you have a liberal politician who has no business experience!

  15. Target returned $951 million to shareholders in the fourth quarter through dividends and share repurchases, bringing the total to $3.4 billion for full-year 2018. This has only been increasing in 2019…

  16. A higher minimum wage salary may seem great but the Liberals fail to list the consequences of a higher salary rate. Less working hours, higher taxes, possible loss of healthcare, insurance companies and retail groceries and businesses jumping on the bandwagon to increase the cost of their goods, resulting in lower sales because consumers consider what is offered too expensive, and an economy which starts to collapse because everyone wants more money. And the workers who work less hours have to work far harder to make up for the cutbacks of employees. And the Liberals never tell the people how high of a salary increase they will vote in for themselves which averages over $12,000 a year increase for their federal wage, not including what their salary increases from their states will be as well. The only ones who benefit are the politicians who make more money than they’re worth and bleed the people for more. So Socialist higher minimum wages for all don’t work.

  17. I said this 2-3 years ago that someone will have to pay the piper.
Increase wages = higher taxes on those wages,
Higher unemployment due to layoffs (sales don’t match sales #’s.)
Less take home pay due to less hours worked,
Higher costs of products/services for the consumer due to higher wages.
Less hours = loss of health insurance.
Thanks to the LIBERAL DA’S for pushing this idiotic measure.

  18. $11 per hr 40 hr week no vacation qualifies food stamps and other subsidies. Living Wage is what the Producers of 50’s and 60’s earned and then here came the idiotic idea of Supply Side Economics. America is moving toward a Revolution if the Crafts men who make things are not paid a wage that affords a house, car, medical and send the kids to College. CEO’s making $17mm and manufacturing Craftsmen making $22 hr will not work.

  19. Cut the name calling out what ever your political affiliation may be there are more a-holes than liberals. Just because you may make a decent living don’t deprive the HARD working American the chance to to make more.
Big companies know how to recoup and rebound. Look at their profits next year and make you comments.

  20. Tߋday, Ӏ went to the beachfront with my kids. I found a sea sheⅼl and gavе it tо my 4 year
old daᥙghter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to her ear and screamed.
There was a hermit crab insiⅾe and it pіnched
