Maddow Wrongly Claims Trump Broke His Word – He Didn’t

It will never cease to amaze me just how ungrateful some people can be. Here we are in the middle of a pandemic, with safety and lives to worried about, and all they can do is focus on their hatred for others.

A perfect example of this was earlier this week when the USNS Comfort arrived in New York Harbor in New York City on Monday. The Comfort is one of two Navy hospital ships that President Donald Trump promised to send to the nation’s two largest cities to help relieve the already overwhelmed land-based hospital staff and space. Each ship is 894-foot-long, has 1000 hospital beds, 1,200 medical staff onboard, a state-of-the-art medical laboratory, and 12 fully operational operating rooms.

The ship’s arrival in the busy harbor should have been a joyous moment, one to applaud and be proud of. And for the most part, it was.

Even Democratic New York Governor Andrew Cuomo made a favorable tweet about its arrival.

“The USNS Comfort seen sailing to New York Harbor from an NYS escort vessel. The Comfort brings 1,000 much-needed hospital beds & 1,200 personnel to New York. I’ll be in NYC to receive a briefing upon its arrival.”

However, for some, it was an event to scorn and dump criticism on President Trump. Why? Because the ship did not arrive exactly when the President said it would.

Trump made a public announcement on March 18 that the two Navy ships would be sent out to the most significant American cities “in the next week or so.” It is important to note that Trump said the ships would be sent or “launched” in the next week or so, not that they would arrive during that time frame.

And yet, Rachel Maddow of MSNBC must have taken it like that. Because on March 20, she made comments on her show about having serious doubts that either ship would make it their destination in a timely fashion, if at all.

She said, “Trump said one of those ships would be operational in New York Harbor by next week. That’s nonsense. It will not be there next week.”

And she was right. It wouldn’t be there by then. Although, that was never the real plan or timeline. To tell the nation, it would arrive a mere week later would have been audacious, to say the very least.

Two days after Trump’s initial announcement about the ships being sent out soon, the President made another announcement, further clarifying the expected timeline. And Maddow must have missed this one entirely.

Trump said, “We’re bringing the big hospital ship up in two weeks, and we’re going to have it New York Harbor or someplace in New York Harbor.”

This is the same day that Maddow said, “The Navy hospital ships the president made such a big deal of, the Comfort and the Mercy, there’s no sign that they’ll be anywhere on site helping out anywhere in the country for weeks yet.”

And yet…

The USNS Mercy, which was assigned to travel to Los Angeles, arrived on Friday. The USNS Comfort, as mentioned above, arrived in New York on Monday.

For each arrival, there was no shortage of positive pictures and comments to celebrate.

Not shockingly, Maddow’s praise was noticeably absent. And also, not shockingly, was her immediate criticism of the President. Only it was all wrong and claimed that Trump had lied or broken his word.

She tweeted, “Hi again, Mr. President! That clip was from March 20, after you said the ship would be in New York harbor by last week. The ship was not in New York last week – which I what I said on my show. You were wrong about it. No hard feelings. Everyone’s glad it’s here now. But…”

Only that isn’t what he said at all. Maddow just took it that way, and she was obviously the wrong one. Trump said it would take two, if not three weeks, for either ship to be even close to their destinations. And yet he and his staff made stuff happen way ahead of schedule.

A mere ten days after his second announcement, they were both in place and ready to take on patients.

For Maddow to try and call him out on this not only shows her complete incompetence as a reporter but also her deranged mind. She would rather focus on any possible negative Trump situation than rejoice in lives being saved.
