Twitter Suspends Candace Owens for Calling Out Whitmer

As Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer continues to make herself public enemy number one with her draconian ways, more and more people are starting to stand up to her. Candace Owens, a well-known conservative commentator, and BLEXIT founder is one of them. She recently tweeted her disapproval of the Democratic governor and encouraged the citizens of Michigan to use their constitutional rights and stand up to her as well.

And for that, Twitter has now suspended her account.

Owens tweet read, “Apparently, (Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer) believes she is a duly elected dictator of a socialist country. The people of Michigan need to stand up to her.” And she continued by adding, “Open your businesses. Go to work. The police think she’s crazy too. They are not going to arrest 10,000 people for going to work.”

The tweet was made on Friday evening. And by Saturday morning, Owens had received a notification from Twitter that her account was suspended for the foreseeable future. However, the social media giant failed to explain just what was so wrong with her tweet that it demanded punishment.

The notification read: “We determined this Tweet violated the Twitter Rules, specifically for:” But it failed to continue with anything else. When Owens contacted Twitter about having the action reversed, she was given two options. She could either delete the post and admit that it violated their Terms of Service or TOS, or she could appeal the suspension.

Naturally, Owens has chosen to appeal the action because, as she says, “I refuse to admit to a violation because none were committed. Hence the reason they did not list a rule that was violated.”

If Twitter themselves couldn’t find a specific rule that Owens tweet apparently broke, how in the world did they expect her to find one?

Owens further told Breitbart News, “I unequivocally stand by every single word of my tweet. If Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez can use Twitter’s platform to encourage works to walk out and boycott – I should be allowed to encourage lawful citizens to resume work.”

And she has a point. What is so wrong with standing up for people and encouraging them to do the same?

Nothing. In fact, that is the entire reason why our First Amendment was created. People should have the right to free speech, to say what they believe, and be protected from a government that might disagree with them.

Owens herself gives an excellent example of this. AOC clearly believes people should be boycotting work and not returning, even after stay at home orders are lifted. Likewise, as several social media users pointed out, “Democratic politicians are allowed to freely tell illegal aliens to disobey our immigration laws right here on twitter.” And don’t even get me started on all the people that support sanctuary cities on social media.

But Owens, because her beliefs don’t exactly line up with the liberally backed social media conglomerate that is Twitter, she is suspended. Her views somehow aren’t allowed to be voiced.

According to the Washington Examiner, Twitter later said that Owens violated a rule that forbids the “denial of… government body recommendations to decrease an individual’s likelihood of exposure to COVID-19 with the intent to influence users into acting contrary to recommended guidance.”

Wow, it is just me, or does it sound like this rule was written explicitly for Owens’s perceived violation?

I mean, Twitter has frequently been known to change its rules whenever it suited them. I can’t even begin to count the number of anti-homosexuality or transgender posts that get deleted by the platform on a daily basis. But this is them literally just making stuff up as they go along, aka a form of tyranny and suppression.

If Americans can no longer say what they think and believe on social media sites like Twitter, we aren’t really free anymore, are we? We might as well sign our rights away and call ourselves socialists.

Clearly, that’s how Whitmer wants it.

But that’s precisely why we can’t. We have to stand up, as Owens suggests. She told the Gateway Pundit, “I will not kowtow to a socialist world order that seeks to limit my constitutional freedom of speech.”

And neither can we. We have to fight every chance that we get. Then maybe, just maybe they will understand that we will not go quietly into the night that is governmental oppression.
