Montreal experienced a sizable amount of unrest recently, as an anti curfew protest on Sunday night eventually became a riot. François Legault, the Premier of Quebec, made a decision that he knew would infuriate people. The curfew was established because of COVID-19 and was pushed up from 9:30 PM to 8 PM.

COVID-19 cases are on the rise, which caused the Premier to make his decision. Thousands of people arrived, ready to protest the new rule. It did not take long before things spiraled out of control. “Montreal Police (SPVM) crackdown on anti-curfew protest at the Old Port in Montreal, Quebec after a bonfire is set. Thousands of protesters are expected to be protesting the 8 pm curfew,” the Post Millennial shared on Twitter.

It was easy to see where things were headed here. The riot broke out and things got ugly very quickly. For us, it is very sad to see all of this spilling over into Canada. America has had our problems with rioting (understatement of the century) but it always hurts to see our neighboring countries going through it.

No one cares about the effects of these riots on local businesses. How can these businesses be expected to withstand the losses that are associated with this sort of violence? This is a question that needs to be asked of the protesters but they are not answering for anything that they do.

For them, the philosophy is simple. They smash everything up first and then they ask questions later. The footage that we saw on social media last night and this morning is saddening. Montreal residents who are willing to abide by the laws should never have to endure this type of savage behavior.

Now, the rest of the city will be left to pick up the pieces of this destruction. No one cares about the flip side of these stories. These cities have to piece things back together after the riots are over. Business owners are left to examine the carnage and try their best to come up with a new game plan.

That’s all they can do at this point. The police may not have been stripped of their funding as of yet but they have been stripped of their fangs. That’s why people feel so comfortable behaving in such an atrocious manner. They know that the liberals rule the world now and this mentality has now spread all the way to Canada.

People need to make up their minds as to what it is that they actually want. Do they want to be kept safe from the virus or do they want permission to do whatever they want? These are two goals that are very much opposite of one another. The businesses that want to be able to make up for all of the lost revenue from the past year are also wondering when they are going to be able to catch a break.

So far, we have yet to see any refuge in sight for these companies. Our hearts go out to them. This just goes to show that this issue is not an American problem, at least not entirely. The mindset that causes people to think that the world is there for them to destroy whenever they get upset has spread elsewhere. If we do not get it under control now, we shudder to think of where the world is going to be by the time things are all said and done.

The rule of law is no longer considered real. It’s entirely optional for today’s citizens and they are showing us this callous disregard over and over again. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the Montreal residents who were adversely affected by the riots last night. We hope that they are able to find peace amid all of the madness that we have been forced to endure as a collective culture.
