Party of Science Deniers! Newsom Forces Children to Continue Wearing Mask When Schools Reopen Next Week
While we are tempted to pin this one on the typical California silliness, Newsom is actually following the CDC guidance on this one. The agency has told those who are fully vaccinated that they can ditch their masks for most activities already so what gives? According to the CDC, masks must remain on in schools because of the risks that are being presented to children who are under the age of 12.
The motto from the CDC has been all about practicing an “abundance of caution” and children are going to be subjected to this policy until the very bitter end. The case totals are falling by the day, as more and more people are vaccinated. There is just one problem with this idea: they are going against their own guidance.
The CDC has been preaching the importance of “following the science” from the very beginning. Why isn’t the science being followed now. Studies have shown that the infection rates in schools remains roughly the same since last year, before vaccines were readily available. It is not a huge leap to suggest that those rates are even more favorable than before.
Most teachers should have been immunized by now, while children should be much safer for the most part. The state’s HHS director is not going to budge on this at the moment. California has done very well to fight the pandemic, better than most states. Their reward will be to remain in masks for the foreseeable future. According to the LA Times, there’s no reprieve for the little ones in sight:
“In short, Californians who are two weeks removed from their last vaccine dose will be allowed to go mask-free in nearly all settings, with some exceptions that include transit hubs or aboard public transportation; in healthcare settings and long-term care facilities; indoors at K-12 schools, childcare facilities or other youth settings; in homeless shelters, emergency shelters and cooling centers; and in correctional facilities and detention centers.”
High schools are particularly problematic in this regard because all of these children need to have been vaccinated by now. Hot Air took a closer look at just how low the numbers have gotten in California:
“On January 2, their positivity rate stood a hair below 18 percent. Cases per 100,000 people hovered at around 100 at the time; today it’s 2.5. The state’s biggest county, Los Angeles, is outperforming even the statewide numbers, with a positivity rate of 0.3 percent and 1.8 cases per 100,000. Some major population centers, like San Diego, Santa Clara, and San Francisco, have vaccination rates approaching or exceeding 70 percent(!)”
Tomorrow is the last day of school at the parish school my county tried to close. There were zero outbreaks all year, PreK-through-8. An apology and explanation is due from every single person who tried to close our schools or attacked me for trying to let them open.

How they can still have kids in schools wearing masks is beyond our comprehension. Our guess is that they are keeping the mask mandates in place because they are very worried about the variants that are starting to make their presence known on this side of the pond. Right now, the United Kingdom is struggling with a variant that is sweeping through young adults and adolescents.
United States health officials have to be watching these situations closely, as they fret overturning their schools into transmission zones. It is fair to wonder about these issues but what about the children? Depression and anxiety has skyrocketed for children in the affected age groups because they are being removed from their friend groups. Tim Carney may not be from California but he has been dealing with this exact issue for the year and his frustration level is high.
“Tomorrow is the last day of school at the parish school my county tried to close. There were zero outbreaks all year, PreK-through-8. An apology and explanation is due from every single person who tried to close our schools or attacked me for trying to let them open. I’m not over it at all. They tried to close the institutions around which we have built our lives. They were wrong. We were right. You know the whole “we are still processing this past year” line you hear? It’s true. I’m processing my anger still,” he tweeted. We could not have said it better ourselves!
